Tips
- It is recommended that you run an anti-virus at least twice a weekto keep your computer clean of any virus that it may have picked up.
- Use a spyware detector when surfing the Net. This will filter outa lot of spywares that install into your computer automatically.
- You should defragment and clean up your hard drive(s) at least oncea week also. You can also go to the control panel and click the 'addand remove software' button and uninstall any programs you no longeruse.
- Dust and clean your keyboard every other day. Also your monitor, scanner and printer.
- Unplug your CPU and open it up. Then gently dust the circuit boardsand every corner and crevice that you can get your brush into. Youwould be surprised at how much a little dust and cobweb can affectyour system.
- Take your computer to a technician once every three months for servicingand take their advice if they suggest that you invest in an upgrade.
- Try not to take up too much space installing a lot of gibberish(stuff you know you are not going to use)
- Do not eat and drink around your computer. I have a computer atwork that rats took over and started messing up inside the CPU becauseof this practice.
- Turn your computer off when you're not using it.
- If you are using a high speed connection like DSL or Cable, installa firewall program. This will prevent hackers from gaining accessto your computer.
- To prevent hard drive defects like bad sectors, always turn offyour computer properly. Do not turn off the power switch of the computerunless it has already locked up and the hard drive is not runninganymore
- Keep your computer from crashing by using UPS (uninterruptable powersupply). You will even have the time to save your work when a poweroutage happens because your computer will still be on for a few minutes
- Turn off your computer first before installing a new device. Makesure that you touch something non-static like rubber before installingthe device to prevent damaging it.
- If you have important documents or files in your hard drive, makebackups. There are a lot of backup media available now, you can usefloppy disks, zip disks, CD-RW, DVD and tapes.
