PestControl Tips
The key to keeping pests away is to deny them food, waterand shelter. Electric bug
zappersare ineffective on most stinging and biting insects, such as bees, waspsand mosquitoes.
However, they do draw other flying insects away from pools, patiosand picnic areas at night.

Tips
- A chemically treated pest strip should not be placed in a room withan infant, a pet or someone who is ill or elderly. You should alsoavoid hanging a pest strip in an area where food is prepared or wherepeople stay for prolonged periods.
- Store food in tightly sealed glass or plastic containers.
- Clean garbage cans regularly and secure their lids.
- Keep counters and cabinets clean.
- Clean up crumbs and spills immediately.
- Repair torn screens.
- Fill cracks and crevices.
- Cover chimney and flue openings with spark-arresting screening.
- To stop ants from invading the house, sprinkle a few crumbled bayleaves on windowsills.
- If ants flock to your flour and sugar bins, place a couple of bayleaves inside. Replace each month.
- Avoid all-purpose pesticides as they may lack the one ingredientneeded to kill a specific insect.
- Use hairspray as a substitute for bug spray when a flying insectattacks. It immobilizes the wings making the target easier to swat.
- Make sure you have no standing water around the house as mosquitosbreed there.
- Spray wasp and hornet nests at night when they are all at home withthe queen or call a specialist who collects them.
WHEN USING PESTICIDES DO
- Read and follow package directions and warnings carefully.
- Mix pesticides in a well-ventilated area.
- Wear rubber gloves.
- Keep pesticides in original containers that are tightly closed andclearly labeled.
- Store pesticides in a locked,well-ventialated area, away from heatand direct sunlight.
- Wrap empty containers in thick layers of newspaper before discardingthem.
- Exhaust all gas from pressurized cans before disposing of them.
- Remove food, utensils, pets and their bowls before spraying.
DO NOT
- Use pesticides near children or pets
- Smoke, eat, drink or chew gum when using pesticides.
- Inhale sprays, dusts or vapors.
- Store pesticides near food.
- Dump pesticides in places where they could endanger fish or wildlifeor contaminate water.
- Reenter a treated room for 1/2 hour after it has been sprayed.
